There is a website where you can open the nutrition label of two foods and compare them at foodapedia. For example, you can compare 1/2 cup of frozen unsweetened blueberries vs 1/2 cup of raw red raspberries. The numbers may be small, but those of you who are interested in numbers might use the site. The default view of Food Info shows the calories and sodium. Click on Nutrient Info to see the carbs, fiber, protein, cholesterol, fats, sugars, vitamins, minerals, etc.

Blueberries 40 calories, Raspberries 32 calories
Blueberries 2 g fiber, Raspberries 4 g fiber

I was comparing cashews to almonds (one ounce dry roasted with no salt). The cashews are 5 calories less, but the almonds are higher in protein, fiber, and calcium, and lower in carbohydrates. Who knew?

I need to get some raw cashews instead of the roasted ones I splurged on this week and a big bag of walnuts. Will have to see if the co-op store I used to belong to in Columbia (will be there this weekend) is still there.

Thank you :-) A doctor told me years ago that almonds are very good for women - hormone balances and bone structure. I love walnuts and almonds but was surprised when I first saw the calories in walnuts, it is insane... I try to keep it at a minimum.

Nuts are high in calories because of the fat, but the fat is heart healthy and the fiber is awesome. Eating them by the handful is not recommended, so figure out how many calories you can afford then weigh or measure them.

I decided to weigh them on a fancy antique salad bowl. Makes me feel good and I eat them slowly. Since I decided on red wine now and then to help my ldl's come down. A glass of wine with a few nuts makes a good after work treat. I like using nice dishes, water in a wine glass with ice and mint is pretty and makes it special compared to the ugly insulated cup I use at work or outside. Dinner on a smaller nice dish or dishes is a feast for the eyes as well, seems to make me eat more mindfully that putting it on a large corelle plate.
